A memorial to sacrifice and courage.
HMS Alliance is the only remaining British WW2 era submarine. After a 28 year operational career she became the centrepiece of the RN Submarine Museum at Gosport and the official memorial to submariners who died in the service of their country. But she needs help. Severe corrosion of her outer structure has proved impossible to arrest due to difficulties of access. Without urgent action, Alliance’s future will be one of accelerating decay.
A £3.4 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and further funds raised by the Submarine Museum means that work has now started to Save HMS Alliance.

The estimated cost of the Project covered by funds raised to date (£3.4m) and the Heritage Lottery Fund Grant of £3.4m is £7m. Beyond this sum, over the lifetime of the project, we need to raise an estimated £200k to cover costs that fall outside the HLF process.
