Saving HMS Alliance

A memorial to sacrifice and courage.

HMS Alliance is the only remaining British WW2 era submarine. After a 28 year operational career she became the centrepiece of the RN Submarine Museum at Gosport and the official memorial to submariners who died in the service of their country. Severe corrosion of her outer structure proved impossible to arrest due to difficulties of access and urgent action had to be taken, to ensure Alliance's future was secure.Umbra_Crew_with_their_Jolly_Roger

A £3.4 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and further funds raised by the Submarine Museum allowed us to begin the work to Save HMS Alliance

HMS Alliance was restored and re-opened to the public on 3rd April 2014.
