Following the tradition of submarines flying Jolly Rogers' an image of a very happy Lt Roxburgh, Commanding Officer of HM Submarine United, standing under a Jolly Roger especially sewn by his crew to celebrate the birth of his baby-it shows a stork carrying a baby!

Shocked engine room personnel laid out on the casing of submarine Sidon after a torpedo explosion in 1955. From the same accident Surgeon Lt (RNVR) Rhodes of the Depot Ship HMS Maidstone being taught how to use breathing apparatus before boarding Sidon to render medical assistance. He died shortly after this photograph was taken and was posthumously awarded the Albert Medal.

Wreckmaster Brock frantically trying to cut a hole in the few feet of the stern of submarine Thetis, which is the only part of the boat visible, after she sank on trials in Liverpool Bay in 1939. Tragically this and all other rescue attempts failed and Thetis was lost taking 99 men down with her.
