The Artefact Collection is very varied and includes ships badges (crests); submarine bells; uniform; personal effects that represent every day life onboard a submarine such as games, hand made brooches and items made by prisoners of war; models; flags (including the submarine Jolly Roger Flag); medals; submarine weapons; visual art and equipment ranging from compasses and gauges to launching axes.
The Museum collects items that represent British submarine history from 1901 to the present day. If you would like to see in detail what we collect then please take a look at our Collecting Policy. Only a small part of the Museum’s collections can be displayed in our public galleries at any one time. Items that are not currently on display, and held in the Reserve Collection, can be viewed with the Keeper of Artefacts by appointment.

Monday & Tuesday 9 am – 5 pm, Wednesday 9 am – 12.30 pm.
