Getting Ready

Aft Hydroplane from HMS Alliance July 11

Dean & Dyball, our contractors are now on site preparing the site to start work. The bow has just been wrapped after a week of wrestling with high winds and a specialist diving team have just finished checking the area is clear for piling. The piling work will begin in the week commencing the 3rd October and should take approx 5 weeks. Throughout the piling operations, noise levels will be monitored to ensure safety for visitors and staff alike. The piling will commence mid-ships on the port side and work around the boat. As this work comes round the boat it will be necessary to remove the gangways one at a time which will mean that HMS Alliance will be closed for a maximum of 2 days per gangway. The dates of the removal of the gangway will be known shortly, giving us a chance to communicate this properly.

Fundraising efforts still continue with community events, a staff sponsored cycle challenge and the Third Thursday Talks all contributing, leaving £470,000 still to raise. A big thank you goes to everyone who has contributed as every penny counts. If you want to donate, just click here.

Last week the fundraising dinner and auction on HMS Victory attracted 80 people and raised just under £35k for the Alliance Appeal. Further fundraising events planned include an afternoon of banjo and ukulele on Sunday 2 October, the Autumn season of Third Thursday talks that start this week, Submarine Father Christmas event in the early December and a defence industry dinner on 3 May at Trinity House in London.

So lots going on....keep in touch by signing up to our Alliance Appeal Newsletter from our website home page or follow us of facebook.
